« Il y avait une volonté manifeste de saboter le mandat de Diomaye Faye » : Lamine Niang justifie la création de Kiraay
Invited for an interview, Lamine Niang discussed the reasons that, according to him, led to the creation of Kiraay. He believes that this initiative arose in a context where President Bassirou Diomaye Faye was facing repeated attempts to undermine his power.
“It is in the diversity of opinions that light emerges. Fraternity was a central element of Pastef. But after enduring repeated underhanded attacks, the President needed a party to support him in his objectives, because there was a clear intention to sabotage the remainder of his term. This risked paralyzing the country, and it is the people who suffer,” he said.
According to him, this situation diverted attention from the true priorities of the Head of State: "As long as this problem persisted, it was understood that the President could not fully devote himself to his essential issues. Each time, they sought to weaken him, while the priorities were youth employment, reducing the State's standard of living, the cost of living, among others," he argued.
Lamine Niang also deplores what he considers a series of decisions aimed at weakening presidential prerogatives. "What is deplorable is that all the decisions or draft laws are geared towards reducing the powers of the head of state. We feel that these are purely political decisions. We can understand such behavior coming from the opposition, but not from people from the same camp who made promises to the Senegalese people," he stated.
Continuing his analysis, he believes that "what really happened was a clear intention to sabotage the rest of Diomaye Faye's term and, by extension, to weaken the Nation, which had asked for none of this."
Speaking about the relationship between the President of the Republic and former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, Lamine Niang stated that the Head of State continues to call for calm and unity. "The President is simply asking for unity of heart and repeats this everywhere he goes. Despite this, while the provocations begin with verbal violence, Ousmane Sonko continues to take actions that weaken the President. Therefore, in my opinion, there is a double standard," he concluded.
