«Ils doivent choisir» : entre Diomaye Faye et Ousmane Sonko, trois ministres au pied du mur
The launch of Bassirou Diomaye Faye's presidential party, scheduled for this Saturday afternoon, could be a moment of political clarification for several members of the government. L'Observateur is particularly interested in three ministers – Déthié Fall (Infrastructure), Moustapha Guirassy (National Education), and Cheikh Tidiane Dièye (Water and Sanitation) – whose positions have been closely scrutinized since the political break between the head of state and his former Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko.
Beyond the symbolic significance of this event, the newspaper believes that these three figures in the executive branch are facing a genuine test of loyalty. At the helm of strategic ministries, they have maintained a prolonged silence since the political split between Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko. Historically close to the Pastef leader, with whom they notably participated in the creation of the APTE coalition and maintained ties before its congress, they now find themselves facing a delicate choice: clearly demonstrate their support for the President of the Republic or remain loyal to their original political ally.
Interviewed by L'Observateur, political analysts Dr. Abdou Khadre Sanogo, a sociologist, and Dr. Malao Kanté, a lecturer and researcher at UCAD, believe that such ambiguity cannot continue within the government. In their view, the Head of State needs to rely on a united majority and clearly declared support. They therefore believe that these ministers must either join the new presidential movement to support Bassirou Diomaye Faye's actions, or leave the government if they choose a different political path alongside the Speaker of the National Assembly.
The two specialists emphasize, however, that rallying to the president does not necessarily imply the dissolution of their respective parties. Those interviewed by the Groupe Futurs Médias newspaper suggest the possibility of an "autonomous partnership," allowing these leaders to maintain their political identity while supporting the actions of the head of state, similar to the alliances that united the Socialist Party (PS) and the Alliance of Progressive Forces (AFP) with Macky Sall's Alliance for the Republic (APR) within Benno Bokk Yaakaar (BBY).
