"They're only thinking about the 2029 elections": Abdou Mbow attacks Sonko and Diomaye

The coordinator of the Alliance for the Republic (APR) in Thiès, Abdou Mbow, reaffirmed this Sunday his party's desire to regain power, on the occasion of a panel organized by the departmental executive secretariat around the theme: "The APR at the time of reconquest".

In his address, Abdou Mbow strongly criticized the new authorities. He accused the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, of prioritizing political tours to sell membership cards, while President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has just launched his own political party. In his view, the current leaders are more concerned with the 2029 elections than with the concerns of the Senegalese people.

The APR official also described as unprecedented the fact that a party which won power with 54% of the vote in 2024 and has 130 deputies finds itself, according to him, two years later in a dynamic of reconquest.

Continuing his criticism, Abdou Mbow asserted that the current regime has failed to build any major infrastructure since coming to power. He denounced a dysfunctional economy, persistent youth unemployment, a lack of funding for women, and the halting of major construction projects.

“Since coming to power, they haven’t even been able to build a roundabout in this country. The economy is totally paralyzed,” he said, asserting that the APR intends to position itself as a credible alternative, both in Thiès and at the national level.

Finally, addressing the departure of some APR officials to the KIIRAAY party, Abdou Mbow acknowledged their decision, reiterating that political engagement is a personal choice. He stated that while some leave the party, others also join. He assured that these departures will not jeopardize the APR's ambitions, which now intend to focus its efforts on reorganization and regaining power.
