« Ils ont trahi le peuple ! » : La charge de Mary Teuw Niane contre les députés de PASTEF
Professor Mary Teuw Niane, Chief of Staff to the President of the Republic, openly attacks PASTEF MPs following the rejection of the Amending Finance Law (LFR) 2026 by the National Assembly.
In an opinion piece titled "THE BETRAYAL" published on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the former minister denounces and condemns the attitude of the majority's parliamentarians. "The PASTEF deputies have betrayed the Senegalese people and reneged on the commitment they hammered home throughout the legislative election campaign," he writes from the outset.
He recalled that Pastef obtained a parliamentary majority for a clear objective: "to give the President of the Republic the means to implement his program and lead the National Agenda for Transformation Senegal 2050." "By rejecting the 2026 Amending Finance Law (LFR), they have turned their backs on this commitment. For political reasons, they have chosen to prioritize the interests of power over the imperatives of the Nation," he declared.
According to him, the guiding principle of the National Assembly President's strategy is to prevent the President of the Republic from acting and succeeding. "This was already the logic at work when he was leading the government," he insisted.
Mary Teuw Niane added: "Every time the Head of State is about to achieve an economic, financial or diplomatic breakthrough, an initiative emerges to try to muddy the waters, discourage interlocutors and break the positive momentum that Senegal is generating under his leadership."
For the former minister, these parliamentary posturings, these political blows aimed at obstructing public action, and these attempts to undermine the presidential mandate are not
They cannot stop the march of the Nation. "You do not build a country by sabotaging its institutions. You do not serve the people by betraying their word," he affirmed.
The academic reminded everyone that the betrayal of public trust cannot continue indefinitely. "Our Republic is strong. Its Constitution is the bulwark of our institutions and the continuity of the State. The Senegal of truth, of its word, and of republican commitment will continue on its path. It will pursue its economic and financial recovery, its ambitions for transformation, and its policies to support the most vulnerable populations," he declared.
Professor Niane also indicated that the rejection of the 2026 Finance Law will not be the end of national ambition. On the contrary, it must reiterate a fundamental requirement: "Senegal is greater than the personal ambitions and political calculations of those who seek to undermine its momentum every day."
Mary Teuw Niane finally called for a renewed commitment to the challenges of tomorrow. "Today's betrayal will become tomorrow's resurgence. It must be the catalyst for a stronger, more resilient, and more united Senegal, united around its President of the Republic," he concluded.
