Infrastructures : Le collectif Rappel dénonce les incohérences d'Ousmane Sonko face à l'héritage de Macky Sall
In a statement, the Rappel collective reacted strongly, pointing to what it calls an increasingly visible "discrepancy" between Ousmane Sonko's political discourse in the opposition and his practices since coming to power.
According to the organization, the former Prime Minister, who had established himself as a critic of Macky Sall's investment choices, now seems to have "gradually adopted a different interpretation of the legacy he fought against."
The first criticism raised by the Rappel collective concerns the daily reappropriation of the major projects of the former regime. While these projects were described for years as "prestige expenditures, disconnected from the real concerns of the Senegalese people," they now constitute the usual backdrop for the travels and events of the new majority.
From the VIP lounge at Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) to the Abdou Diouf International Conference Centre (CICAD), via the Regional Express Train (TER), the BRT, the Administrative Building, the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium or the Dakar Arena, the list of requested equipment is long.
For the group, the continued operation of these sites proves that those who opposed them "are now contributing, through their use, to highlighting their usefulness in the functioning of the country."
This paradox, they argue, was illustrated in the context of the preparations and holding of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG). The group points out that the success of this global event depends on key infrastructure, including "the rehabilitation of the Olympic swimming pool, all at the initiative of President Macky Sall."
In this regard, the document directly challenges the political leader: "How can one denounce the investments made under Macky Sall [...] and, at the same time, benefit from these infrastructures to organize an international competition of this magnitude?"
The authors add that during its regional trips, such as its recent participation in the launch of Sadio Mané's projects in Bambaly, the delegation once again "traveled kilometers of road to Macky Sall's credit", thus showing the concrete results of the contested debt.
In light of these developments, the Rappel collective is urging the politician to follow through on his plan and adopt a more consistent stance. The organization calls on Ousmane Sonko to fully implement his own political strategy by ceasing to use the infrastructure created under the previous presidency.
“Politics demands consistency. Responsibility also requires recognizing achievements, regardless of who achieved them,” the statement concludes, calling for an end to political posturing and for statements to be confronted with facts so that the promised break with the past does not amount to “a discourse with variable geometry.”
