Severe weather: The APR calls for strengthening emergency measures and extending them to all affected areas.

The Alliance for the Republic (APR) expresses its solidarity with the populations affected by the heavy rains recorded yesterday, Sunday, October 4, in Dakar and several other parts of the country. The party extends its condolences to the bereaved families and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.

"These rainfalls have led to significant flooding, causing considerable material damage and, unfortunately, loss of life... Faced with this situation, the APR takes note of the emergency measures taken this Monday by the government, including the activation of the Dakar Regional Emergency Plan, the establishment of a monitoring committee, the mobilization of financial resources for emergency interventions, the strengthening of the alert and information system for the population, as well as the measures taken to facilitate mobility and ensure the continuity of essential services," the statement reads.

However, the party calls for these measures to be extended to all affected areas and for increased vigilance in the face of the risk of further rainfall. The APR also believes that the protection of the population must remain at the heart of public action, beyond political considerations.

"The APR regrets, however, that the daily concerns of citizens seem too often relegated to the background, at a time when the government devotes excessive energy to political struggles and the pursuit of power. The urgency of the situation demands that the protection of the population and addressing their concerns be placed at the heart of public action."

The APR calls for the generalization and effective deployment of these measures in all areas affected by the bad weather, so that every affected population can benefit, as soon as possible, from the necessary relief, assistance and support," the statement said.

The party finally invites its leaders, activists and supporters to mobilize alongside the affected populations and to contribute to assistance and relief operations.

The APR also calls for "maintaining constant vigilance in the face of the risks of further rainfall and strengthening anticipation in particularly exposed areas".
