JOJ Dakar 2026 : Thierno Bocoum appelle à dépasser les clivages au nom de la continuité républicaine
As Senegal hosts the world for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG), the president of the AGIR movement celebrates a collective victory and salutes the contribution of all the political and institutional actors who have succeeded one another at the head of the State.
Thierno Bocoum welcomed the start of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG). For the former parliamentarian, this historic event transcends mere political rivalries and should be celebrated as the triumph of an entire nation.
“What a source of pride to see Senegal welcoming the world, our colours flying above the borders, our youth shining and our country offering Africa a historic opportunity,” rejoiced Thierno Bocoum.
Rejecting any logic of partisan appropriation or institutional amnesia, the leader of AGIR was keen to pay a vibrant tribute to the successive architects of this Olympic adventure, recalling that "the Republic is not built on the negation of what has been done before, but on the ability to preserve, improve and transmit".
Thierno Bocoum thus congratulated the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and his government for ensuring the continuity of this national commitment in its final stages. He specifically mentioned the Minister of Infrastructure, Déthié Fall, the Minister of Sports, Djirèye Clotilde Coly, as well as all the ministerial departments involved.
The former MP did not forget the initial impetus, congratulating former head of state Macky Sall for having put forward Senegal's candidacy and initiated the infrastructural dynamic that convinced the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Thierno Bocoum also expressed his sincere thanks to Mamadou Diagna Ndiaye, the CNOSS and the COJOJ for their indispensable coordination work.
He praised the successive contributions of Khalifa Sall (to the genesis of the ambition), Soham El Wardini (for the decisive institutional support during the allocation phase), Barthélémy Dias (for his fight for the Olympic legacy of the capital) and Abass Fall (for the continuity of territorial mobilization).
He also congratulated Matar Bâ, Yankhoba Diatara, Amadou Bâ, Lat Diop and Mame Mbaye Niang, illustrating the succession of state office through the governments.
"The common good must take precedence over disputes."
For Thierno Bocoum, the success of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games provides proof by action that a country can progress serenely when its great ambitions survive political alternations and changes of personnel.
"A country progresses when ambitions outlive men, when projects transcend changes in power, when achievements overcome divisions, and when the general interest prevails over political disputes," he stated, calling for the emergence of a true "culture of continuity of the State."
In conclusion, the president of AGIR invites Senegalese people to look to the future, believing that the true victory will lie in the legacy left to future generations: modern and sustainable infrastructure, a better-trained youth and multiplied economic opportunities for a Senegal fully aware of its potential.
