Kaolack : l’ancien coordonnateur adjoint de Pastef claque la porte et rejoint Kiiraay
Former deputy coordinator of Pastef in Kaolack, Ababacar Diagne, announced his resignation from the party in a statement made public on Sunday, August 23, 2026. After several years of commitment to the political party led by Ousmane Sonko, the official said he made this decision due to a lack of recognition and the absence of response to his requests.
In his resignation notice, Ababacar Diagne elaborates at length on his activist career. He states that he joined Pastef in 2016 and successively held several positions, including cell leader, deputy party coordinator, and departmental youth leader.
The now former Pastef official also claims a role in the various stages of the political struggle that led to the 2024 change of power. He indicates that he participated in the coordination of the sponsorship of list 111 in the department and that he orchestrated, in Kaolack, the Diomaye President coalition during the 2024 presidential election.
"Not an ounce of recognition"
At the heart of his decision, Ababacar Diagne primarily cites a feeling of frustration. According to him, his years of activism and the responsibilities he assumed were not sufficiently recognized by the party leadership.
"Not an ounce of recognition has come to repair the wear and tear of time and sacrifices," he laments in his statement.
He also claims to have sent several letters to the party president seeking support to strengthen local political roots, without receiving a response, according to him.
A new political direction
At the same time, Ababacar Diagne believes that his commitment to the youth of Kaolack and his local influence have earned him the attention of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye.
It is in this context that he announces his joining Kiiraay, the Republican Patriots, a group which he presents as being in line with his ideal of service to the Nation.
The former Pastef leader insists that his departure does not, in his view, constitute a renunciation of his convictions. Rather, he presents this choice as a new stage in his political commitment, guided by "absolute loyalty" to the ideal of serving Senegal.
This resignation comes at a time when political realignments are continuing at the local level, particularly in Kaolack, where the balance between leaders, movements and political formations remains under close scrutiny.
Ababacar Diagne is thus leaving Pastef after nearly a decade of activism, highlighting a career marked by his involvement in structuring the party and in electoral campaigns. He now intends to continue his political work alongside President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Kiiraay.
