"Kiiraay, la patrie d'abord" : Le Président Diomaye Faye lance son parti sous le sceau de l'unité et de la souveraineté
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye officially launched his new political party, "Kiiraay, the Fatherland First," presented as a party destined to champion the deep aspirations of the Senegalese people. Beyond its creation, this inaugural meeting was intended as a moment of structuring, as well as a space for dialogue and unity around a republican project. Presented as the party of "republican patriots," Kiiraay intends to promote an inclusive vision of governance, founded on national unity, citizen participation, and the defense of the nation's best interests.
The party's visual identity was explained in detail to members and guests. The first symbol highlighted was the umbrella, which gives the party its name. In African and Senegalese traditions, it evokes protection, shelter, solidarity, and collective responsibility. According to party officials, this symbol reflects the desire to build a party that protects all citizens, without exclusion, and that prioritizes dialogue and inclusive nation-building. The second symbol is the clenched fist. It represents strength, determination, and national unity. Placed at its center, the map of Senegal serves as a reminder that citizens remain at the heart of the political project, while the Republic remains paramount.
The third element is the laurel wreath, a universal symbol of victory, success, wisdom, and glory. Party officials noted that this image also appears on the national coat of arms, where it surrounds the scroll bearing Senegal's motto. It thus represents an ambition for sovereignty and collective achievement.
This notion of sovereignty occupies a central place in the political project championed by Kiiraay. Referring to the Senegal 2050 Agenda, the party's founders emphasized the need to strengthen food, energy, economic, and even cultural sovereignty. To illustrate this vision, they drew upon the work of Professor Cheikh Anta Diop, citing his preface to * Nations nègres et culture* (Black Nations and Culture ). According to this thought, a people can only preserve its identity by rediscovering the historical thread that connects it to its ancestral past, making culture one of the most effective weapons against external influences.
The leaders of the new party called for national unity, social cohesion, and overcoming divisions. They emphasized that "Kiiraay, the Fatherland First" aims to contribute to strengthening national harmony and consolidating Senegal's sovereignty by placing the collective interest above partisan considerations.
