« Kiiraay risque de devenir le bouclier des transhumants », l'alerte du journaliste-chroniqueur Seydina Seck
Journalist and columnist Seydina Seck questions the dynamics surrounding the birth of Kiiraay, the new political formation presented as a pillar of the presidential majority.
In an article, he warns against the risk of this party becoming a refuge for officials more concerned with their political future than with a genuine ideological commitment.
According to him, the numerous defections recorded in recent weeks raise questions about the true motivations of some new members. "As the local elections approach, several mayors, territorial elected officials, and political leaders seem to consider Kiiraay as a new landing spot," says Seydina Seck, believing that many are primarily seeking to maximize their chances of securing a nomination.
The columnist observes that this dynamic does not only concern local elected officials. "General managers, board chairmen and other appointed officials are also joining this new structure," he notes, adding that, for many observers, these defections mainly reflect a desire to preserve positions acquired within the state apparatus.
Addressing a more sensitive topic, Seydina Seck also mentions the case of certain figures who have been criticized for their management or involved in public controversies. "Some analysts believe that these officials are seeking to reposition themselves politically through their membership in Kiiraay," he writes.
He clarifies, however, that "membership in a political party does not confer any judicial immunity and in no way prejudges the responsibility or innocence of anyone," recalling that any procedure falls exclusively under the jurisdiction of the courts.
For the journalist and columnist, the real danger lies in the image this new political formation could project. "The risk is that Kiiraay will gradually be perceived, rightly or wrongly, not as a party of renewal, but as a refuge for officials seeking political protection or new electoral opportunities," he warns.
Faced with this situation, Seydina Seck believes that Kiiraay's leaders must be extremely rigorous in choosing their future candidates. In his view, "selection criteria must be based on competence, integrity, and service to the public interest, rather than on political clout or individual calculations."
The columnist believes that Kiiraay's future will depend less on the number of new members it gains than on its ability to maintain its credibility. "Kiiraay's credibility will not be measured by the number of new members, but by its ability to distinguish activists with a genuine project from those who see the party as nothing more than a vehicle for political survival," concludes Seydina Seck.
