La pique d’Ousmane Sonko au ministre Cheikh Diba : « Tu pouvais nous épargner ce... »
The atmosphere was solemn, yet tinged with irony, during the debates on the supplementary budget law (LFR) in the National Assembly this Tuesday. Speaking immediately after the opening statement by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Cheikh Diba, the President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, responded directly and casually to the Minister's argument.
Just as Cheikh Diba had requested that the bill be sent back to committee, citing Article 84 of the rules of procedure, in a particularly structured speech calling for responsibility and institutional dialogue, Ousmane Sonko quickly changed the tone with a touch of humor. "You could have spared us this long sermon," he quipped with a smile, emphasizing that it was unnecessary to prolong the intervention ("baña guddël xutba") since the desire to discuss was shared by all parties.
The Speaker of the Assembly reiterated that Parliament's doors have always remained open to dialogue and that the referral procedure requested by the government is a legal right, in accordance with the law. He then acknowledged the request and immediately convened the Conference of Presidents to establish a timetable for committee work.
