Lamine Niang, DG Soleil : « Comment Ousmane Sonko a ouvert la brèche aux attaques contre Diomaye Faye »
Lamine Niang, Director General of the national daily newspaper "Le Soleil", revisited the tensions that have marked relations within the Pastefian tandem.
According to him, in an interview given to Seneweb today, certain public statements have fostered a climate of division within the government. "There are two temporal phases. There are speeches that contribute nothing. Every worthwhile speech must be delivered at a specific time," he stated. To support his analysis, he recalled the attitude of Pastef activists during the Adji Sarr affair. "This solidarity, which enabled them to confront what was presented as a political conspiracy, should have continued once in power," he asserted.
Lamine Niang believes that Ousmane Sonko's speech stating that "the country lacks authority" was a turning point. "It opened the floodgates to sabotage, insults, and criticism against President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. I knew it was going to happen, and I haven't slept a wink," he confides.
He claims to have tried to alert party officials. "I asked to meet with Minister Daouda Ngom to invite him to resolve the problem internally. In my view, action had to be taken quickly. History has proven me right," he maintains.
Lamine Niang, a member of Pastef's communications team, asserts that those in charge knew which accounts were the most influential on social media. "If we had truly wanted this to stop, it wouldn't have taken long. We know which accounts are the ones calling the shots. Besides, we often created diversions to deflect the debates," he states.
According to him, the attacks against the Head of State have multiplied without any real reining in. "The most dangerous thing is that no one has put them in their place properly," he laments. He also believes that certain public statements have exacerbated internal divisions. "The statements continued, reinforcing the separation. Emotion is a poor advisor. When I published a message calling for a return to basics, I was subjected to a torrent of insults. But I don't read the comments," he explains.
According to him, the atmosphere had become worrying. “At a certain point, you had to choose sides: be with the President or with the Prime Minister. It had become serious. Beyond professional responsibility, there must be moral responsibility, and not everyone knows the difference,” he explains. Lamine Niang also laments the lack of sanctions against certain officials.
He cites, in particular, a member of parliament who referred to a "legitimate President" and a "legal President," without, according to him, being reprimanded. He also criticizes other officials who, in his view, have desecrated the presidential institution without being sanctioned by their political party. "Those who were imprisoned even used it to gain notoriety," he concludes.
