« Les lois économiques et sociales ne les intéressent pas » : Amadou Bâ dénonce l’absence des ténors de l’opposition
As members of parliament examine the draft laws on the Labor Code and the Social Security Code, Pastef MP Amadou Bâ laments the low turnout of opposition parliamentarians. He argues that these texts, directly linked to working conditions, social protection, and the rights of Senegalese citizens, are not generating sufficient interest among some leading figures in the opposition.
“They’re not interested in laws of an economic and social nature,” he denounced, believing that some political leaders only attend the National Assembly when the issues have a strong political or media dimension. The elected official specifically pointed to a National Assembly that was “virtually empty” at a time when bills directly affecting the daily lives of Senegalese workers and families were being examined.
For Amadou Bâ, this situation raises a question of political responsibility. Parliamentarians, regardless of their political affiliation, have a duty to participate in debates and contribute to the drafting of laws, particularly when it comes to texts with significant economic and social implications.
The MP is calling on Senegalese citizens to pay closer attention to the attendance and commitment of their representatives. "Senegalese people must understand that they need to denounce political leaders who only show up when the cameras are rolling," the parliamentarian insists. Through this statement, Amadou Bâ intends to bring back to the forefront of the debate the issue of MPs' actual presence in the National Assembly and, more broadly, their accountability in carrying out their parliamentary mandate.
