DPG - Al Aminou Lo : « les clivages politiques extrêmes et les violences verbales, ce n'est pas ça le Sénégal ! »
This is his first public address since his appointment as Prime Minister on May 25, 2026 by the Prime Minister of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, followed by the formation of the government on June 1, 2026. Thus, Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo faced the deputies with "graveness and full knowledge of what this high place represents in our Constitution".
"Extreme political divisions and verbal violence, that is not what Senegal is about! At this solemn moment, my thoughts go out to all those in this nation who are suffering for various reasons: our young graduates or non-graduates, or learners seeking their first job, powerless in the face of their own needs and those of their parents, the sick without adequate care, people with disabilities, the mother with her malnourished child, the pregnant woman who risks dying in giving life, the father or mother of the family who, at this precise moment, has not yet gathered enough to prepare the midday meal," he lists.
"My thoughts are with all those among this people who are suffering for various reasons."
Before continuing: "retirees with very modest pensions, those who wade and cook or sleep in flooded houses, employees who start counting at the beginning of each month how many days of expenses their salary will last, the informal worker who is currently walking the road looking for something to cover his dignity, the rural woman who returns from the well after so much effort to draw water, the parent who wonders what will happen to his child who is in school from the primary cycle, whose future is already uncertain, the farmer, the fisherman and the herder currently exposed to the weather to earn their living."
The Prime Minister also listed the defense and security forces, sometimes far from their families, watching over our security day and night at the risk of their lives, the Senegalese in the diaspora in precarious situations, torn between returning home and a stressful life abroad, and the young people who risk their lives in the ocean for an often imaginary Eldorado.
"Finally, to all those who have been in pretrial detention in prison for a very long time, without the slightest information on when the investigation of their case will begin," he adds.
"They are our primary constituents, let's never forget that."
Continuing, Al Aminou Lo recalled the millions of Senegalese households statistically recognized as vulnerable, corresponding to approximately 8 million people, or 40% of the population, who are vulnerable and poor for many of them.
“This is the reality. This is the true reality of our country, which must be displayed before the eyes of those who watch us, resonate in the ears of those who listen to us, and become ingrained in the minds and hearts of all those who follow us. Let us think of these people before each of our actions, before each of our words, especially in the context we are experiencing today. They are our equals, and they have rights and duties, as beneficiaries of what the Nation produces. They are our primary constituents; let us never forget that.”
