LFR 2026 : Abdou Mbow démonte la démarche du Pastef et dénonce un « cinéma de mauvais goût »
Abdou Mbow was scathing in his criticism of Pastef. During the debates in the National Assembly on the 2026 supplementary budget bill, the MP strongly criticized the ruling party's approach, accusing it of engaging in political posturing after the bill's rejection in committee. The parliamentarian described the sequence as a "theatrical performance," denouncing what he sees as a contradiction between Pastef's previous budgetary choices and its current position on the supplementary budget. "It was Pastef, led by Ousmane Sonko, that coordinated the initial budget bill, which they voted on in the National Assembly with supporting arguments," he stated.
For Abdou Mbow, the difficulties revealed by the Finance Law, particularly regarding revenue and investment, highlight the limitations of the current administration. He believes that the ruling party is now facing the consequences of its own budgetary choices.
The MP also criticized the dialogue initiative launched by Pastef, amidst tensions between the government and the National Assembly. He sees the request for further discussions on the budget bill as an attempt to justify the party's position to the public after the bill's rejection in committee. Abdou Mbow denounced this as "tasteless posturing," contesting the way in which, according to him, the leaders of the ruling party are trying to manage the political fallout from this situation.
The opposition is distancing itself
The parliamentarian also sought to clarify his group's position in the discussions between the Executive branch and the Pastef party members. "Our parliamentary group, a member of the Finance Committee, is not involved in any way, shape, or form in these behind-the-scenes discussions, these negotiations, this murky dealings between Parliament and the government," he stated. This declaration signals Abdou Mbow's intention to keep his party out of the ongoing negotiations, even though referring the Finance Law back to committee should allow the government and the relevant members of parliament to further their discussions.
