Amadou Ba, a member of parliament from the Pastef group, warns of the economic and social consequences of the measures planned in the Amending Finance Law (LFR) 2026. In an opinion piece published on his digital platforms, he denounced in particular the announced elimination of 555 billion FCFA of investment spending and the reduction of energy subsidies.
555 billion in investments cut
According to the parliamentarian, the government plans to cut 555 billion CFA francs in investment spending. These measures could hinder investment in infrastructure, agriculture, health, and education, with repercussions for economic growth and employment.
"This will negatively impact our economy, which will create neither jobs nor wealth. Senegal will not create jobs with the current Finance Law and the upcoming Finance Law. 2027 will be a gloomy year for the private sector, and unemployment, especially among young people, will explode," he warned.
Towards a rise in pump prices
Amadou Ba also warned about the increase in fuel prices. "It's common knowledge: if transport costs increase, all the prices of basic necessities will increase: rice, oil, bread," he stated.
According to the MP, "the worst part" is that these budget adjustments will prioritize debt repayment at the expense of productive investment and household purchasing power. "The current situation is that eliminating these two budgetary measures will only serve to pay off the debt, to the detriment of economic growth and the fight against unemployment."
"A battle for purchasing power"
He thus called for refocusing the debate on the economic and social implications of the Finance Law, warning of potential social tensions if the population bears the brunt of these measures. "These are the issues at stake in the National Assembly: a battle to safeguard the purchasing power of Senegalese citizens and maintain investment. Those who want to reduce this to a petty squabble between the President of the Republic and the President of the National Assembly are dangerous for democracy and social peace," he declared.
And the MP concluded with a warning: "When prices rise, you'll see that the people will refuse to pay the price for this hidden debt alone. Hello, may the streets be in disarray!"
