Locales 2027: Ousmane Sonko s'oppose fermement à un report des élections
While in Bambey on Saturday, July 25, 2026, for the launch of his party's card sales campaign, Ousmane Sonko firmly rejected any idea of postponing the local elections scheduled for January 2027.
Speaking from the city's multi-sports stadium, the Pastef leader stressed the crucial importance of this election to choose mayors and presidents of departmental councils. He called on the population to demand adherence to the electoral calendar.
“We have fought against election postponements in the past. So we will not accept it today,” declared the former Prime Minister and current President of the National Assembly. According to him, the reluctance of some political actors stems from a fear regarding Pastef’s representativeness. Reaffirming his determination, he warned that the declared candidates will have to face him at the ballot box, asserting that “the population is simply waiting for the elections.”
