Matam : Farba Ngom isole le maire de Dabia, lâché par plus de 80 % de son conseil municipal
The political climate is becoming increasingly tense in the commune of Dabia. Forty-five of the 56 municipal councilors have officially disavowed Mayor Yaya Abdoul Kane, following his rapprochement with the Kiiraay political movement.
The decision was formalized by a resolution adopted on Saturday at a large rally held in Dabia, chaired by the Honorable Farba Ngom, departmental coordinator of the Alliance for the Republic (APR). Read publicly by Yéro Farba Sy, this declaration of disavowal took place in the presence of several local political leaders, including Dr. Thimbo, Arouna Demba Seck, and Abdoulaye Bâ. The three departmental councilors from the local government also expressed their full support for this initiative.
In their resolution, the 45 signatory elected officials accuse the mayor of what they call an "act of betrayal" against the municipal council, the people of Dabia, and the Honorable Farba Ngom. The dissenting councilors point out that Yaya Abdoul Kane rose to the head of the municipality thanks to the decisive political support of Farba Ngom. They therefore believe that his alignment with the Kiiraay party constitutes a complete break with the political commitment that had previously underpinned their collaboration.
In light of this situation, the signatories reaffirm their loyalty to Farba Ngom and their commitment to the APR party, which supports former President Macky Sall. They also affirm their dedication to continuing the development initiatives already underway for the benefit of the municipality.
A political break that is now openly acknowledged.
The tone of the resolution is particularly firm towards the mayor. The 45 councillors formally advise him against convening any meeting of the municipal council before the end of his term.
This stance reflects the extent of the political divide within the municipal team. Controlling 45 out of 56 seats, the signatories display overwhelming opposition to the mayor, even though the institutional consequences of such an action remain to be clarified in terms of local government law.
Yaya Abdoul Kane's political shift towards the Kiiraay movement has thus opened a new chapter of instability in local politics. In Dabia, the confrontation now concerns not only political orientations but also leadership and the functioning of the municipal institution. It remains to be seen how the mayor will respond to this massive rejection and what impact this deadlock will have on the town's affairs in the coming months.
