Ndiassane : le khalife des Kounta écrit à Diomaye Faye
The general caliph of the Kounta family, Sheikh Bou Sidy Makhtar Kounta, sent two letters to President Diomaye Faye. In these correspondences, sent in September 2025 and February 2026, the leader of Ndiassane outlines a land issue to the head of state. According to the newspaper, which consulted the second letter, he points to "the illegal appropriation of land historically belonging to the family of Sheikh Bou Kounta, founder of Ndiassane. This land is located in three localities: Diouck, in the Saint-Louis region, Dakar, and Thiès."
The khalifa informs Diomaye Faye that his family owns Diouck Island, citing a "notarized deed to support it", that "more than nine land titles" belonging to him, registered in the capital, are being plundered and that on his 1098 hectares belonging to the Kounta in Thiaoune, a city in Thiess, "serious cases of illegal appropriations have been observed, with the alleged complicity of certain decentralized state services".
Warning against "a new Ndingler," the religious leader indicates that this situation is likely to "compromise social peace, historical memory, and the balance of relations between the State and the country's religious and customary communities."
While standing ready to provide documents proving that his family owns the land in question, the caliph invites Diomaye Faye to "put an end to the ongoing expropriations and subdivision", to "order an impartial administrative inquiry" and to "guarantee the protection of the lands legally acquired by Sheikh Bou Kounta and his heirs".
Les Échos reports that the Palace has indeed acknowledged receipt of the two letters. However, the newspaper points out that the Head of State has not yet responded to the appeal from the Khalif of Ndiassane.
