Ouverture de la 3e session extraordinaire : Ousmane Sonko défend l'Assemblée nationale et dément tout blocage budgétaire
The National Assembly's third extraordinary session of the year opened this Friday. Speaking at the opening, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, categorically denied rumors of institutional gridlock surrounding public finances.
Emphasizing the importance of preserving the institution's image, Ousmane Sonko called on public figures to exercise more restraint. "On behalf of the National Assembly, I would like to call on all our fellow citizens to show great restraint when it comes to promoting the institution's reputation," he stated from the outset.
Before continuing, he added: “The institution has never received notification of an amending finance law for the year 2026. The government has never submitted a complete request to the National Assembly accompanied by an amending finance law. To attempt to exploit this politically and make the Senegalese people believe there is a crisis, that the National Assembly has deliberately blocked the examination of a finance law, is demagogic and acts in bad faith.”
Ousmane Sonko concluded his speech by calling for collective responsibility and respect for the prerogatives of the legislative branch. "The National Assembly is an institution, and we call on all political actors, whether politically engaged or not, to respect this institution," he stated.
