Package d’initiatives parlementaires en session extraordinaire : Lamine Niang met un bémol
The National Assembly opens an extraordinary session this Monday, August 10, 2026. This session will notably feature eleven items on the agenda: three bills, two proposed bills, and six requests to establish parliamentary inquiry commissions. The Director General of the national daily newspaper Le Soleil has expressed reservations about this package of parliamentary initiatives.
Invited to the Objection program this Sunday on Sud Fm, Lamine Niang indeed gave his point of view on this extraordinary session. "In itself, it is always a good thing for the National Assembly, within its prerogatives, to oversee government action," he emphasized from the outset.
However, he is quick to point out, there is a "catch": "it's the context that's the problem." "Let's not forget that the current President of the National Assembly was Prime Minister of Senegal for 26 months. Everything that's being put on the table now are issues that could have been addressed more than two years ago," he observes.
In this regard, the Director General questions the real objective of these initiatives. "Is the objective precisely to meet the needs for transparency and good governance, or is it simply because there is a breakdown, they are trying to throw a wrench in the works?" he asks.
Citing the resolution concerning land and the public maritime domain as an example, Lamine Niang points out that the preliminary report was submitted to the Prime Minister in June 2024, and the final report was delivered to the Head of State in the presence of Ousmane Sonko in August of the same year. According to him, the current Speaker of the National Assembly had taken no action to submit this report to parliament.
One example among many others which, according to Niang, testifies to the bad faith of the initiators of these texts.
