Parti socialiste : Abdoulaye Wilane plaide pour une réconciliation fondée sur la démocratie interne
In an interview with Walf Quotidien on Monday, Abdoulaye Wilane, spokesperson for the Socialist Party (PS), addressed the tensions within the party, the demands of the "Dundal PS" movement, and the still-unresolved issue of convening the party congress. He argued that reconciliation among the socialists cannot be limited to a rapprochement between party leaders. It must be accompanied by a genuine democratic overhaul of the party.
“Reconciliation is not wishful thinking, it’s a political act,” Abdoulaye Wilane stated from the outset. The Socialist Party spokesperson believes that the socialists still possess a sufficiently solid common ground to overcome their divisions. “We share a history, a heritage, values, and above all, a common fight against social injustice,” he emphasized.
But this reconciliation, he warns, cannot be reduced to a simple handshake between officials. It must, in his view, be based on "transparency, respect for the rules, internal democracy, and giving a voice back to the members." From this perspective, disagreement should not be seen as a threat to party unity. "Disagreement is not a disease in a democratic party," he maintains.
When questioned about the delay in convening the congress, Abdoulaye Williane acknowledged the legitimacy of the impatience expressed by party members. However, he cautioned against confusing speed with effectiveness.
“We must distinguish between the date of the congress and the quality of the congress,” he explains. For him, holding a meeting hastily based on contested lists or in a context where certain groups feel excluded could weaken the Socialist Party more than it would help rebuild it.
The spokesperson nevertheless assures that the recovery process is underway with the establishment of a dedicated committee. The challenge now, he believes, is to translate this momentum into "a clear timetable, a transparent method, and an inclusive process."
