PASTEF/MBOUR : Makane Diop claque la porte et dénonce une "dérive autocratique"
A new critical voice has emerged within the former ruling party. Makane Diop, a historical figure of PASTEF in the Mbour department, announced his resignation from the party and all its leadership bodies, through a letter addressed to the party president, Ousmane Sonko.
The former deputy coordinator of PASTEF in Nguékokh, secretary general of the Senegalese Patriotic Youth (JPS) of the department of Mbour, plenipotentiary of the district of Sindia, departmental coordinator of the legislative elections of 2022 and 2025 and municipal councilor was considered one of the early activists in the locality.
In his letter, Makane Diop refers to a decision made "with deep emotion" but which he describes as "irreversible." The former official states that he long believed in the party's founding ideals, particularly internal democracy, collegiality, and collective leadership.
However, he now believes that these principles have gradually faded in favor of a mode of governance that he considers excessively centralized.
"Unfortunately, recent events have led me to acknowledge a profound break between the principles I defended and certain realities that I can no longer ignore. The PASTEF party, once a space for contradictory debates, collegiality, collective leadership and mutual respect, has gradually transformed into a personal possession. The regular bodies have been emptied of their substance in favor of a vertical governance, where the figure of the 'guide' has supplanted the democratic ideal. The cult of personality and the demand for blind allegiance have replaced the critical fraternity that was our strength," he observes bitterly.
Presenting himself as an activist committed to his democratic convictions, Makane Diop claims he can no longer condone this autocratic drift and says he is acting in accordance with his political conscience.
Despite the firmness of his criticisms, the former official insists that he is leaving without animosity towards his former colleagues.
"I leave PASTEF without animosity, but with a clear conscience having served with sincerity, loyalty, patriotism and dedication. My fight for a just, democratic and sovereign Senegal will now be written outside of this framework. I thank you for the moments of struggle and hope shared with many activists whose commitment will always remain worthy of respect," he signed.
