Politique : Talla Sylla appelle à un "front républicain"
Talla Sylla launched his "TAWFEEX" movement this Saturday in Thiès. The former minister-advisor and ex-mayor of Thiès used this opportunity to challenge the single-member, first-past-the-post electoral system, call for democratic mobilization, and criticize the "system." He outlined the contours of a "Republican Front" intended to transcend partisan divisions and individual ambitions.
Rather than simply launching yet another political party, Talla Sylla attempted to lay the groundwork for a new understanding of the democratic struggle. The objective of such a front is to build a framework dedicated to defending Senegal's institutions, democracy, and best interests. His ambition thus goes beyond the mere creation of an additional electoral apparatus; Mr. Sylla hopes to foster a dynamic that is not the property of any single party, coalition, or leader.
"Kenn yoru ko, Askan wi moo ko yor," Mr. Sylla indicates through a formula behind which the desire to refocus the debate is outlined: "the Republic cannot be confiscated by the apparatuses or reduced to the interests of the leaders. It must remain a collective good."
Since the protest must, in his view, find its exclusive outlet in the ballot box, the former mayor of Thiès thus refers the political forces back to their primary responsibility, namely to convince the voters, build a credible alternative and obtain popular support through the mechanisms provided for by the Constitution.
