Présidentielle 2029 : l’APR place déjà Macky Sall dans les starting-blocks !
The Alliance for the Republic (APR) already seems to have its sights set on the 2029 presidential election.
Following the withdrawal of the former president from the race for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations, the spokesperson for the APR believes that his return now constitutes a major political prospect for 2029.
Within the ranks of the APR, the battle for the political narrative for 2029 has already begun.
"2029, no debate!", declares Alioune Badara Coulibaly.
Thus, Alioune Badara Coulibaly is advocating for Macky Sall's return to the forefront of the political scene. Between attacks against the current regime, defense of the former head of state's record, and denunciation of the "apprentices" in power, the political figure is pulling no punches.
For Alioune Badara Coulibaly, Macky Sall's return to the national political debate is far from being a possibility to be dismissed. Quite the contrary.
In his opinion piece, he argues that the various procedures and initiatives directed against the former head of state have produced the opposite effect to that sought by his opponents.
"They wanted to smear him and bury him with commissions of inquiry, threats of indictment and reports hidden by their authors. Alas, all this ends up contributing to making him more indispensable," he writes.
"Never again will we have apprentice presidents!"
The APR spokesperson pulls no punches in his criticism of the current government. In a particularly scathing attack, he argues that Senegalese people now yearn to break with what he calls the amateurish approach to public affairs.
"Never again any apprentice Presidents, apprentice Prime Ministers, apprentice Ministers and apprentice parliamentarians," he declared, before asserting that the people want to "throw the populists in the trash."
For Alioune Badara Coulibaly, the 2029 deadline should leave no room for hesitation. He presents the APR and its leader as the only political recourse capable, in his view, of putting Senegal back on track.
"There will only be one, the APR, its leader, to hope for a return to greatness," he insists.
Macky Sall versus Diomaye-Sonko: the APR brandishes the record of twelve years in power
In his argument, the political leader directly contrasts the achievements of Macky Sall's twelve years of governance with the management of the Diomaye-Sonko tandem.
TER, BRT, bridges, stadiums, family security grants, universal health coverage, production tracks or even modernization of religious cities: Alioune Badara Coulibaly lays out the record of the old regime in order to better attack its successors.
He thus describes a confrontation between the "Senegal of the TER, the BRT, bridges, stadiums" and that of "taxes and speeches".
According to him, this comparison is gaining ground in public opinion, from Koumpentoum to Casamance, passing through Fouta and the peanut basin.
The APR spokesperson also accuses the regime, which he refers to as "Pastef-Kiraay", of progressively isolating Senegal.
Beyond the criticism of the government, this statement sounds like a genuine call for Macky Sall's return. Alioune Badara Coulibaly presents the former president as a statesman with the experience, international network, and stature necessary to unite a country he considers deeply fractured.
"He is the alternative. The only credible one. The only personality capable of uniting, reconciling, and calming this Senegal fractured by hatred," he insists.
Through this assertive statement, the APR is clearly outlining its ambitions for 2029 and intends to place its leader at the heart of the presidential debate. However, this political will will have to contend with electoral realities and the question of a potential candidacy by the former head of state.
