Rejection of the 2026 Finance Law: Kiiraay-Kaolack calls on PASTEF MPs and fears for the future of the regional hospital

Following the rejection of the 2026 supplementary budget law by PASTEF members of parliament, the Kiiraay-Les Patriotes de Kaolack departmental coordination fears the consequences of this decision on the financing and implementation of the Kaolack hospital construction project. In a statement sent to Seneweb, the organization expressed its "deep indignation" at the rejection of the 2026 supplementary budget law.

According to the coordinating body, disagreements between political actors must not, under any circumstances, jeopardize the implementation of essential infrastructure projects for the population. "If this rejection were to jeopardize the construction or funding of this hospital, the population would be entitled to demand explanations and concrete guarantees. The health of citizens must never be sacrificed to political differences," the coordinating body warned.

The two PASTEF MPs elected in Kaolack were summoned.

Kiiraay-Kaolack specifically points to the responsibility of the two parliamentarians elected on the PASTEF departmental list. According to the coordination, these representatives, entrusted with the confidence of the voters, have an obligation to defend the interests of their constituents, beyond partisan considerations. The coordination calls on them to publicly explain their position on the Finance Law and to actively commit to preserving the hospital project.

The coordination also demands clarifications on the consequences of rejecting the budget text, as well as concrete guarantees regarding the financing and implementation of this health infrastructure.

Finally, the presidential party is calling on all active forces in the department to mobilize to ensure the safeguarding of Kaolack's key infrastructure projects. "Defending Kaolack's interests is non-negotiable. The health of its people is not a political bargaining chip," the coordinating body insists.
