Retrait de Macky Sall : Mamadou Kassé déplore une occasion manquée pour l’Afrique
Former Senegalese President Macky Sall, according to Mamadou Kassé, possessed all the necessary skills to contribute to Africa's influence on the international stage. A guest on the Sunday Jury program, the urban planner and politician expressed regret over the withdrawal of his candidacy, which he described as "a loss for Africa and the world," while praising the decision as one of "greatness and stature."
The withdrawal of Macky Sall's candidacy for an international leadership position has deeply saddened Mamadou Kassé. A guest for the first time on the program "Le Jury du Dimanche," the former leader of the Alliance for the Republic (APR) expressed his disappointment with a decision he considers a missed opportunity for the African continent: "What a shame. What a shame for the world and what a shame for Africa," he declared, summarizing his reaction to the announcement.
Macky Sall, an opportunity for Africa to shine
For Mamadou Kassé, the candidacy of the former Senegalese head of state represented a major opportunity for Africa to strengthen its presence and influence within international bodies. With his political experience and knowledge of geostrategic issues, Macky Sall, in his view, possessed the necessary assets to contribute to finding solutions to the challenges of the multilateral system.
“This was an opportunity for Africa to shine once again on the international stage and to find its place in an organization where it has never truly been able to find its place,” he stated. The urban planner believes that the withdrawal of this candidacy goes beyond the former president’s personal interests. He sees it as a missed opportunity for the continent, which could have leveraged his profile to have a greater impact on international debates.
“Greatness and stature”: Mamadou Kassé applauds the former president’s choice
Despite his disappointment, Mamadou Kassé welcomed Macky Sall's decision, which he interpreted as a sign of political responsibility. He particularly emphasized the former head of state's desire to prioritize a solution that would avoid deadlock and take into account current diplomatic dynamics.
He also noted Macky Sall's gratitude to the individuals and institutions that supported his candidacy. These included Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye, the African Union, and Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who had agreed to officially endorse his candidacy.
For Mamadou Kassé, this attitude demonstrates an undeniable political greatness, in a context where candidacies for international responsibilities are often confronted with power dynamics and complex diplomatic considerations.
When asked about the consequences of this withdrawal for the Senegalese political scene and for the APR, which he recently left, Mamadou Kassé preferred not to speculate, refusing to comment on the internal affairs of his former party. He did, however, acknowledge Macky Sall's stated desire to remain involved in major international issues, a perspective he considers essential given the former president's experience and expertise.

Pauvre mouton
