Risques de blocage du PLFR-2026 : le message de Diomaye aux députés de Pastef avant l’examen du texte
Following the agreement reached between Senegal and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which remains subject to approval by the Fund's Executive Board, the government has drafted its supplementary budget bill (LFR-2026). The text has been submitted to the National Assembly, which is expected to examine it in the coming days.
As the text arrives before a National Assembly dominated by Pastef, and as its president, Ousmane Sonko, has publicly asked for clarifications on the content of the agreement with the IMF and on the treatment of the debt, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has given his position on the conduct that the deputies, particularly those of Pastef, should take.
The head of state believes that everyone will have to assume their responsibilities before the people, who, according to him, will have to assess the stance adopted by the various actors.
"I believe that in the context we are in, with regard to the efforts we are making for the benefit of the Senegalese people, these representatives (Editor's note: the deputies) could not have any other patriotic behavior than to support this dynamic that they found, that they had to manage with us and that has remained in the same state, but that we are working to curb," said President Diomaye.
The Senegalese head of state was speaking from the United States during an interview with Groupe France Médias Monde.
