Santé en milieu carcéral : l'Assemblée nationale a adopté la loi
The National Assembly votes on prison healthcare. This Wednesday, September 30, members of parliament adopted, by a majority vote, bill no. 39/2026. Sponsored by Khady Sarr, Anta Dia, Cheikh Faye, and Mamadou Lamine Diaité, it aims to address the lack of a coherent regulatory framework and guarantee access to healthcare for inmates. "The principles of continuity of care and non-discrimination, the professional independence of medical personnel, improved coordination between the relevant ministries, and the establishment of mechanisms for monitoring, tracking, and protecting the rights of sick inmates are among the reasons cited by the authors of this bill," it was noted.
The government, represented by the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr. Ibrahima Sy, had its eight amendments accepted.
The preliminary questions from Abdou Mbow and Thierno Alassane Sall, which called for the postponement of the exam, had been rejected earlier.
