Sonko avait-il vraiment bloqué la LFR ? Un passage du communiqué du Conseil des ministres relance le débat
The debate on the 2026 Amending Finance Law (LFR) is far from over. While accusations have been leveled against the President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, who is accused of having prevented the examination of the text, a statement by Prime Minister Al Aminou Lô, reported in the press release from Wednesday's Council of Ministers meeting, seems to shed new light on the matter.
Last Monday, in a Facebook post, Minister-Advisor Aldiouma Sow stated that the President of the National Assembly, without explicitly naming him, "refused to have the Amending Finance Law (LFR) examined, which should have allowed several public and semi-public administrations to pay salaries on time."
But the minutes of the Council of Ministers meeting seem to present a different situation. According to the official statement, the Prime Minister "invited the Minister of Economy, Finance and Planning to ensure that the 2026 Amending Finance Law, taking into account the technical agreement with the Fund's services, is submitted to the National Assembly as soon as possible."
This wording suggests that the government had not yet submitted the supplementary budget law to the National Assembly. If this interpretation is correct, it would call into question the claim that Ousmane Sonko had "blocked" the examination of the text.
Amadou Bâ reacts
This new development quickly drew a reaction from Amadou Bâ, Pastef's communications director. "Public figures and media outlets have knowingly accused President Ousmane Sonko and Pastef of blocking the Finance Law. They will offer no apologies, will not be prosecuted for spreading false news, and will continue tomorrow to slander Ousmane Sonko with new false revelations," he asserted.
