Soudure 2026 : le Gouvernement renforce son dispositif de solidarité en faveur des communautés vulnérables
Faced with the deteriorating food situation in several parts of the country, the Government is stepping up its response to protect the most vulnerable populations during the lean season. An exceptional mobilization of resources and intervention mechanisms is underway to ensure rapid and effective assistance to affected communities.
During his address to the Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister drew attention to the lean season, which extends from June to August and represents a particularly difficult time for many households and livestock farmers. This period, marked by food shortages and increased pressure on livelihoods, calls for a coordinated and supportive response from the State.
Based on the findings of the latest analysis session of the Harmonised Framework on Food Security, conducted under the coordination of the Technical Secretariat of the National Food Security Council, the Head of Government noted a significant deterioration in the food situation in several departments, including Goudiry, Salémata, Bambey, Matam, Podor and Ranérou, where many populations are facing severe food insecurity.
In order to respond effectively to this situation, the Prime Minister instructed the Minister of Economy, Finance and Planning to mobilize without delay all the resources necessary for the implementation of the National Response Plan (PNR), the main framework for State intervention to deal with food, nutritional and pastoral crises.
He also asked all relevant bodies to strengthen their intervention mechanisms to ensure a rapid, coordinated, and tailored response to the needs of the population. This mobilization notably involves the National Solidarity Fund (FNS), the Commission for Food Security and Resilience of Senegal (CSAR), the National Council for Nutrition Development (CNDN), the Livestock Safeguarding Operation (OSB), and the National Family Security Scholarship Program (PNBSF).
Through these measures, the Government reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that no community is left to face the difficulties caused by the lean season. This approach reflects a vision based on national solidarity, the protection of the most vulnerable populations, and the strengthening of local resilience.
The Ministry of Family, Social Action and Solidarity, a key player in this dynamic, fully contributes to this collective effort through the implementation of social protection policies, particularly the National Family Security Grant Program. True to its mission of strengthening household resilience, protecting vulnerable individuals, and combating poverty, the Ministry, alongside other government departments, continues to take concrete actions to support families, preserve their dignity, and strengthen their capacity to cope with food, economic, and social shocks.
