Tensions en coulisses : pourquoi l'APR a boycotté l'accueil de Macky Sall sur le tarmac
In its edition of Saturday, July 18, Les Échos suggests that Macky Sall's return was marked by "behind-the-scenes tensions" between the protocol of the Presidency of the Republic and the leaders of the Alliance for the Republic (APR).
According to the newspaper, the main point of contention concerned the number of people allowed onto the tarmac of Léopold-Sédar-Senghor Airport to welcome the former president at the aircraft's gangway. After several discussions, an agreement was reached to allow 150 people to participate.
But, the same source continues, a “dramatic turn of events” occurred on the eve of the event: the presidential protocol reversed this decision and informed APR officials that “only four (04) people” would ultimately be allowed to welcome Macky Sall, “without giving the slightest explanation.”
Faced with this reversal, APR officials rejected the new proposal. Despite last-minute discussions to "find a middle ground," no compromise was reached. The presidential protocol office remained firm in its position of only allowing four people access to the private jet.
As a result, the daily newspaper concludes, the leaders of the APR "decided purely and simply to boycott this offer," preferring to remain outside the airport in order to welcome their leader alongside the mobilized activists.
