Violences présumées contre Oumar Sow : Afrikajom Center exige une enquête indépendante
The Afrikajom Center think tank has spoken out following the alleged acts of violence against Oumar Sow, former advisor to President Macky Sall. The human rights organization is demanding a full investigation into the case and calling for justice for Oumar Sow.
In a statement, Afrikajom Center indicated that it received Oumar Sow on Monday, October 5, 2026, who came to report the violence he claims to have suffered on Friday, October 2.
According to the account given by the former minister-advisor, the events occurred while he was on his way to a meeting with the judge of the 1st chamber at the Pikine-Guédiawaye courthouse. A verbal altercation reportedly broke out between him and a local security officer (ASP), before the situation escalated.
Oumar Sow claims that several police officers then intervened and that he was pushed, forcibly seized, and dragged down the stairs to the courthouse basement. He says he lost consciousness before being placed in a cell. He was then handcuffed and transferred to the Wakhinane-Guédiawaye police station before being rushed to King Baudouin Hospital.
According to Alioune Tine, founder of Afrikajom Center, the medical certificate issued following this treatment reports bodily injuries, including severe bruising on the right hand, right wrist, and parietal region of the head. The medical document also mentions a seven-day period of temporary incapacity for work (TIW).
Given the seriousness of the reported facts, Afrikajom Center says it expresses its deep concern and reaffirms its commitment to the protection of human rights in Senegal.
The organization calls on the relevant authorities to fully investigate the circumstances of the incident and to conduct an independent, impartial, and transparent inquiry. It also demands that any individual responsibilities be established in accordance with the law.
Afrikajom Center also urges the authorities to guarantee respect for the physical and moral integrity of every person, including in places of justice and detention, as well as effective access for victims to justice and remedies.
For the organization, respect for human rights and the principle of accountability remain fundamental requirements of the rule of law and constitute essential levers for strengthening citizens' trust in the institutions of the Republic.
