Ziguinchor : les Sociaux-Démocrates du Sénégal soutenus dans leur projet par Banta (groupe de hauts cadres et de la diaspora de la région)
Ziguinchor is on the cusp of a new political and social dynamic. The Banta group, comprising senior executives from the city and the diaspora, has officially announced its support for Dr. Mohamed Lamine Manga, National Secretary General of the Social Democrats of Senegal (SDS). This alliance reflects a shared commitment to lifting the city out of its difficulties and offering it a brighter future based on economic and social development.
Business coach Garmi Badji, one of the spokespeople for the Banta group, explained the reasons for this choice: “We saw that Dr. Manga had the right profile. Rather than each acting on our own, we decided to combine our ideas to improve the living conditions of the people of Ziguinchor. Working together to achieve our ambitions is much more effective than working in a scattered fashion.”

The Banta Group is a think tank that brings together agricultural engineers, hydrocarbon specialists, accountants, lawyers, managers, and development agents. Their program is structured around four main pillars. The first is the development of local resources, emphasizing agriculture, fishing, and crafts to stimulate the economy and create sustainable jobs. The second is the modernization of infrastructure, with projects aimed at improving roads, sanitation, and public lighting to make the city more functional and secure. The third pillar is improving the quality of life through investments in health, education, and green spaces to provide an environment conducive to the well-being and development of residents. Finally, the involvement of the diaspora is a key component, mobilizing the skills and investments of Ziguinchor natives living abroad to boost local development.
For his part, Dr. Mohamed Lamine Manga welcomed this convergence: “The Banta group could have legitimately run for mayor of Ziguinchor, as its members have the necessary qualifications. But they understood that working together was even better. At SDS, we believe in consensus, hard work, and peace. Welcoming these brothers and sisters is a great satisfaction, and we extend a hand to others to build unity around the development of Ziguinchor.”
This alliance illustrates a shared commitment: to transcend individual ambitions and build a collective project. SDS and the Banta Group intend to combine their strengths and expertise to raise living standards for the population and realize the shared dream of a modern, prosperous, and inclusive Ziguinchor.
Through this merger, Ziguinchor stands at the dawn of a new era. The Banta Group and Dr. Manga's objective is clear: to transform the city's untapped potential into concrete opportunities for its residents. This approach could mark a turning point in local history and pave the way for a genuine economic and social revitalization of the municipality.
