Cérémonie d’ouverture des JOJ : Les réseaux s’enflamment, les Sénégalais conquis !
Videos shared endlessly, statuses flooded with flaming emojis, glowing comments… Following the opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG), social media is still buzzing with excitement. And Senegalese people aren't hiding their pride. On Facebook, Instagram, and X, the same words keep coming up: "magnificent," "authentic," "national pride."
Journalist Fatou Abdou Ndiaye sums up this feeling in two words: "National pride." Supporting her message is an image that has gone viral: a map of Africa drawn by the choreographers, one of the evening's most striking pieces.
Even political leaders put their differences aside for one evening. Amadou Bâ, MP and head of communications for Pastef, was full of praise: "It's truly magnificent!! Congratulations to the COJOJ."
Bentaleb Sow, former special advisor to the head of state, also praised the show. "It's magnificent and authentic. The references are epic (I haven't even forgotten Tukki Bukki), the guest artists were top-notch. Congratulations to the COJOJ and especially to the opening ceremony team. We know how much you gave despite the constraints. Thank you for making us proud," he wrote.
Journalist Papa Alioune Sarr, for his part, borrowed a famous quote from French sports commentator Thierry Roland to express his enthusiasm: "I think that after seeing this, we can die in peace. Well, as late as possible, but we can! Senegal REIK!" Mamadou Diop Decroix, leader of And Jef, also joined in the excitement. The former Minister of Commerce described the ceremony as "very beautiful," before calling for unity so that "the celebration remains beautiful." Activist Jaly Badiane, for her part, particularly noted "the reference to Cheikh Anta Diop." Charmed by the spectacle, she didn't hesitate to conclude: "It's a victory."
Lawyers in black robes also applauded. "The opening ceremony was MAGNIFICENT," exclaimed Souleymane Soumaré. The lawyer made a point of congratulating those responsible for what he called a "resounding success." Pape Alé Niang echoed this sentiment. The Director General of RTS described "a grand evening, filled with emotion, color, and symbolism." According to the journalist, it "magnificently showcased Senegalese talent, cultural richness, and legendary hospitality to the world."
Reactions have been numerous, and a sense of pride has been widely expressed. But the hardest part begins now. Having successfully completed the opening ceremony, Senegal must now confirm its performance over the next two weeks: ensuring a high-quality organization, engaging the public, and fostering a spirit of sportsmanship during the Games.
