Cherté de la vie : El Hadj Alioune Diouf plaide pour une direction du contrôle des prix
As the high cost of living continues to fuel debate in Senegal, the question of price regulation mechanisms has returned to the forefront of discussions. Former Director of Domestic Trade, El Hadj Alioune Diouf, a guest on the program "Point de vue" this Sunday on RTS,
He notably proposed the creation of a price control department.
For the Commissioner of Economic Investigations, the issue of subsidies should not be reduced to a simple cut. "I am not against subsidies. They are even necessary. Subsidies are used all over the world," he argued, calling for better targeting of sectors and beneficiaries.
According to him, energy needs to remain supported because, he says, its high cost could compromise industrialization ambitions and reduce the country's attractiveness to investors.
The Commissioner for Economic Investigations explained that in an open economy like Senegal's, widespread subsidies on rice, oil, or sugar can lead to these products being exported to neighboring countries, where prices may be higher. "If you subsidize rice, oil will flow across the borders," he warned.
Strengthen control and review the circuits
Addressing the issue of strengthening price monitoring mechanisms, the former head of domestic trade stressed that the state must not leave basic necessities solely to market forces.
He also proposed the creation of a price control department to give more resources and visibility to public action. The objective, according to him, is to distinguish between price increases justified by costs and those linked to speculation. "Regulation should also extend to distribution channels," he specified.
Alioune Diouf also denounced the proliferation of intermediaries between producers and consumers. "Producers are not making a living from their production," he lamented, calling for a review of the organization of commercial channels.
A better-structured public intervention
According to the former Director of Domestic Trade, the solution to the cost of living lies in four key areas: price controls, reducing intermediaries, targeting subsidies, and protecting the domestic market. This approach, he believes, aims to reconcile support for households, protection for producers, and preservation of purchasing power.

Le Sénégal chacun fait ce qu'il veut comment comprendre la hausse des prix comme le foin pour bétail devenu plus cher que les produits usines. La viande le volaille ,l état fait comme si rien n'était..
