Crime de Podor, blocage économique et JOJ 2026 : Le grand réquisitoire de Cheikh Oumar Anne
Invited to the RFM Matin program, former minister and member of parliament Cheikh Oumar Hann offered a frank assessment of current national events. After strongly condemning the murder of high school student Aminata Sy in Podor and the rampant insecurity, the coordinator of the "New Responsibilities" movement criticized the record of the Diomaye-Sonko leadership, which he deemed inadequate. In favor of dissolving the National Assembly and highly critical of the preparations for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the opposition figure called for a broad coalition of opposition forces in preparation for the 2029 presidential election.
Invited on the RFM Matin program, former minister and member of parliament Cheikh Oumar Hann expressed his profound indignation following the assassination of Aminata Sy, a final-year student at the Baba-Ndiongue high school in Podor. He also painted a bleak picture of the political and economic situation in Senegal, criticizing the government's handling of the situation, calling for opposition unity, and advocating for the possible dissolution of the National Assembly.
Aminata Sy's assassination: Cheikh Oumar Ann denounces the resurgence of violence
It is with deep sadness and keen indignation that Cheikh Oumar Hann reacted to the assassination of young Aminata Sy, a student in her final year at the Baba-Ndiongue high school in Podor and originally from Ngaolé, a village located near the town.
The tragic death of this high school student, whose future was still full of promise, has plunged her family, loved ones, classmates, and the entire community into immense grief. The former minister offered his sincere condolences to the bereaved family and to all the people of Ngaolé and Podor, praying that the Almighty welcomes the deceased into His eternal paradise.
Beyond this tragedy, the MP is concerned about the recurring crimes in Senegal, particularly those affecting young people. He believes that the increase in these heinous acts should concern the entire nation.
For Sheikh Oumar Hann, it is urgent to take concrete measures to strengthen citizen security, prevent crime, and effectively combat impunity. He calls on the State to fully assume its responsibilities in protecting people and property.
“Human life is sacred. No family should have to endure such an ordeal,” he emphasizes, in a message filled with sadness and indignation.
A harsh assessment of the Diomaye-Sonko regime
Beyond this tragedy, Cheikh Oumar Hann painted a worrying picture of the political and economic situation in Senegal. According to him, the hopes raised by the arrival of the new authorities have been far from fulfilled.
“Senegal had confidence in them. They had sold a project according to which everything would be fine once in power. So far, nothing,” he lamented, denouncing a country plunged into a situation of deadlock.
According to the former minister, the current difficulties contrast sharply with the expectations placed on the new government. He believes that the authorities have failed to provide satisfactory solutions to the problems faced by the Senegalese people, particularly in the economic sphere.
He also denounced the tensions at the top of the state, believing that the disagreements between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko are diverting institutions from their essential missions.
“We had elected both of them: ‘Sonko moy Diomaye, Diomaye moy Sonko’,” he recalled, referring to the slogan that had symbolized their political alliance.
According to him, the rivalries between the two men weaken governance and fuel a climate of uncertainty, while the people expect concrete results.
"The opposition must regroup."
Faced with this situation, Cheikh Oumar Hann is advocating for a realignment of the opposition around a common approach. He believes that individual ambitions must give way to a collective strategy focused on the country's development.
Saying he is in agreement with Idrissa Seck's recent analysis of the national situation, he insists on the need to overcome personal differences in order to build a genuine alternative political force.
"We need unity in the opposition, to put aside our personal interests and to come together for the development of the country," he argued.
For the former minister, experience and skills remain essential for leading a country. He specifically mentioned the careers of the Socialist Party (PS), the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS), and the Benno Bokk Yaakaar (BBY) coalition, believing that the current context is leading some Senegalese to reconsider the role that former political leaders could play.
2029 in sight: "Diomaye and Sonko won't dare ask for the country"
Sheikh Oumar Hann is already looking ahead to the next presidential election. Criticizing the record of the current government, he believes that economic difficulties and a sense of deadlock could weigh heavily on the upcoming elections.
“In 2029, Diomaye and Sonko will not dare to ask for the country,” he declared.
This statement reflects his conviction that the new authorities will struggle to regain the trust of the Senegalese people. For the general coordinator of the New Responsibilities movement, the opposition must therefore prepare now, prioritizing unity and setting aside personal interests.
Dissolution of the National Assembly: Sheikh Oumar Hann in favor
When asked about the possibility of dissolving the National Assembly, the MP expressed support for this option if the political situation continues to deteriorate.
“If it continues like this, I agree to the dissolution,” he said, while reaffirming the need for the opposition to regroup.
This stance is part of his call for a recomposition of the political landscape, which he considers necessary in the face of the tensions and difficulties the country is going through.
Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games: Criticism of unsanitary conditions and decor
The organization of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) has not escaped criticism from the former minister. Discussing the preparations for this international event, he specifically pointed to the unsanitary conditions and what he considers shortcomings in the urban environment and setting.
Cheikh Oumar Hann believes that the organization should have lived up to the ambitions shown by Senegal for this first edition of the Youth Olympic Games organized on the African continent.
His observations thus contribute to the debate on the preparation for Dakar and on the image that Senegal wishes to project at this international event.
The New Responsibilities continue their rollout
Finally, the general coordinator of the New Responsibilities movement discussed the activities of his political party. Referring to his visit to Podor, he reiterated his statement that he would take responsibility if Amadou Ba failed to honor his commitments.
He states that his training program is currently continuing its rollout across Senegal, with activities organized in different areas of the country.
