Décès de Mody Niang : Malick Gakou révèle le message reçu du défunt dix jours avant sa mort
Former minister Malick Gakou, also of Pastef, reacted to the death of Professor Mody Niang, which occurred on Saturday, October 17, 2026. In a message published from Geneva, he said he learned the news "with deep sadness."
"A great intellectual, a committed patriot, a man of conviction who dedicated his life to defending the principles and values of the Republic, with courage, dignity and a deep attachment to the general interest," he said at the outset, thus paying tribute to the intellectual and former chairman of the board of directors (PCA) of the national daily newspaper "Le Soleil".
Continuing, Malick Gakou revealed that he had received a message from the deceased a few days ago. "Exactly ten days ago, as I was leaving Senegal, I received a message from him in which he congratulated me on my commitment and my current political stance. We had then agreed to meet upon my return to Senegal. Alas, fate decided otherwise. We will never see each other again in this world," he wrote on his Facebook page.
“I will remember him as a man of principle, whose words and convictions left their mark on Senegalese public life,” he added. He then offered his prayers for the repose of his soul and extended his condolences to his family, loved ones, and the entire Senegalese people.
