Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games: MP Mbaye Dione praises an opening ceremony that celebrates Africa and "Teranga" (hospitality).

The Secretary General of the Alliance of Progressive Forces (AFP), the Honorable Member of Parliament Mbaye Dione, sent his warmest congratulations to the organizing committee and the State of Senegal the day after the opening ceremony of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG). The parliamentarian hailed a great moment of national unity and continental influence.

In his official message, Mbaye Dione emphasized that this inaugural ceremony transcended mere spectacle, carrying a powerful symbolic weight of African unity. Drawing inspiration from key lyrics of the national anthem, particularly the verse "Arise, brothers, Africa is reunited!", the AFP official believes that Senegal has offered the world a magnificent illustration of African fraternity and cohesion.

He congratulated the organizing committee and the State of Senegal, under the leadership of President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, for giving this Olympic celebration a truly continental dimension. The Member of Parliament emphasized that hosting these Games in Senegal is the culmination of a long institutional process initiated under the presidency of Macky Sall. According to him, this achievement demonstrates the country's ability to unite around major strategic objectives, transcending political divisions and sensitivities.

Finally, Mbaye Dione expressed his fervent wishes for the success of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, while also offering his warmest encouragement to the Senegalese athletes competing in the Games. He also called on all citizens to demonstrate a strong sense of hospitality in order to promote "Teranga," a core value that, in his view, constitutes one of the greatest jewels of Senegal's cultural heritage.
