The Minister of Infrastructure, Déthié Fall, sponsor of the 2026 class of the Polytechnic School of Thiès (EPT), invited the new engineers and graduates to put their skills at the service of the economic and social transformation of Senegal.
Speaking on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the graduation ceremony, the minister stressed the importance of the role awaiting this new generation of engineers in a country facing significant challenges in infrastructure, urbanization, climate change, and economic competitiveness.
"Our country is going through a decisive phase in its history," said Déthié Fall, referring to Senegal's considerable needs for roads, bridges, dams, water and energy networks, public buildings, the digital economy, and aeronautical systems.
The minister urged the graduates to prioritize fieldwork and knowledge of local realities. "You are the generation that must perpetuate the legacy that your predecessors, present here in the room, and high authorities in this country have left you," he declared.
For Déthié Fall, Senegal needs "not managers locked in air-conditioned offices, but builders who get involved on the ground," capable of engaging in dialogue with both local communities and international partners.
He thus called on them to "embrace difficult territories, ambitious projects, missions that frighten" in order to contribute to the implementation of the State's projects.
Déthié Fall also invited the new engineers to take full part in the transformation project initiated by President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye.
The minister asked the new graduates to make several solemn commitments. He first called upon them to serve competently, continuing to learn, question themselves, and train. He then asked them to serve with integrity, refusing any compromise that could betray the public's trust.
Finally, he urged them to serve conscientiously, keeping in mind that behind every work there are women and men, families, and hopes.
Addressing the new graduates of the Polytechnic School of Thiès, the Director General of the institution, Professor Mamadou Wade, also invited them to make integrity one of the pillars of their future career.
"Competence opens doors, but integrity leaves them open," he said, stressing the importance of trust in one's career path.
According to him, trust is one of the greatest assets an engineer can acquire. It is built gradually, through "the quality of work, fidelity to one's word, and respect for ethics."
The Director General also warned the graduates about the fragility of their reputation. "Your reputation is built over years. Yet it can be damaged in moments," he reminded them. Before concluding with a piece of advice: "Protect it. It will be one of your most valuable assets."
