The murder of Aminata Sy, killed in Podor by her alleged boyfriend, continues to provoke emotion and outrage. In an audio recording circulating on social media, the young woman's father broke his silence to set the record straight, deny the rumors targeting his family, and demand a punishment commensurate with the barbarity he denounces.
Devastated by the loss of his daughter, Aminata Sy's father decided to speak out in response to the proliferation of misinformation circulating on social media. In his statement, he categorically rejects accusations that his family benefited from the alleged murderer's money before betraying him.
“The information he gave about my family is completely false. He says we ate his money before betraying him. That’s not true. There was no betrayal,” he asserts.
According to his account, it was his daughter herself who introduced him to the young man, explaining that they were in a romantic relationship and that he was planning to propose. The father says he then set a condition: Aminata, still a student, had to continue her studies before considering marriage. The young man reportedly accepted this requirement, assuring her that he was in Turkey for work and could wait.
The father explained that he had been in contact with the accused by telephone for nearly three years, without ever meeting him in person. At the beginning of their conversations, the accused called him from a Turkish number and said he worked in that country. About a year later, he allegedly informed him of his return to Senegal and his presence in Touba.
But, he claims, the family eventually discovered that the young man had lied to them about his situation. He says he learned that the young man had been coming to Podor without their knowledge. He admits, however, that he doesn't know if he met his daughter during these trips, adding that Aminata had never mentioned it to him.
Beyond the rumors, it is above all the violence of the murder that plunges this father into indescribable grief. Unable, in his own words, to bear the barbarity with which his daughter was killed, he demands a radical punishment for the one he holds responsible for her death.
“As a father, as a parent, what I am asking for as a measure is to kill him as he did to my daughter,” he says, referring to the shock he felt when he discovered his child’s body.
Speaking to the press, Aminata Sy's father said his primary aim was to clarify the facts in light of the numerous speculations circulating since the tragedy. He also expressed his gratitude to the Senegalese people for the compassion and solidarity shown to his family, as well as to the judicial authorities and the gendarmerie forces in Podor, Dakar, and Saint-Louis.
Behind the debates and conflicting accounts circulating online lies the grief of a family struck by an irreparable loss. For Aminata's father, speaking out is an attempt to set the record straight, while justice is expected to shed full light on this horrific tragedy.
