Mody Niang laisse « un héritage précieux » : l’hommage du Dg de la RTS, Pape Alé Niang
The Director General of Senegalese Radio and Television (RTS), Pape Alé Niang, paid tribute to Mody Niang, who passed away this Saturday, October 17, in Dakar. "There are men whose worth is measured neither by the positions they held nor the honors they received, but by the steadfastness of their convictions and the nobility of their struggles. Father Mody Niang was one of them. With his passing, Senegal loses a committed voice, a free conscience, and a man whose writings and stances enriched the public debate on democracy, good governance, and transparency in the management of public affairs," he wrote on his Facebook page.
"A citizen committed to the ideal of a more just Senegal"
Pape Alé Niang reflects on the life of the deceased: “Throughout his career, Mody Niang made the defense of republican principles a constant commitment. Through his writing, his analyses, and his challenges, he reminded everyone that managing state affairs required rigor, responsibility, and respect for citizens. He also resolutely championed the demand for transparency and accountability, convinced that no one can be above the rules that underpin a Republic.”
The Director General of RTS added: "His fight was not simply that of a man of convictions, but that of a citizen committed to the ideal of a fairer, more democratic, and better-governed Senegal. He believed in the power of debate, the necessity of civic vigilance, and the duty to speak one's mind, even when the truths are inconvenient."
A legacy: freedom of thought and courage
“Father Mody Niang thus leaves us a precious legacy: that of freedom of thought, fidelity to principles and the courage to defend one’s convictions. His journey reminds us that democracy is not limited to elections, but also rests on citizen control, transparency and the constant demand for accountability from those in power,” he said.
Pape Alé Niang suggested: “Today, as he leaves us, it is a time for reflection, but also for gratitude. For those who dedicate their lives to defending essential principles never truly disappear. Their ideas remain, their writings bear witness, and their struggles continue to challenge present and future generations.” He continued: “Farewell, Father Mody Niang. May the earth of Koki rest lightly upon you. May your soul rest in peace. Your voice has been silenced, but your fight for democracy, good governance, and transparency will remain etched in the memory of those who believe in a more just and responsible Senegal. Rest in peace, worthy champion of the Republic.”
