«Vers un ajustement structurel aux conséquences incommensurables…» : le terrible présage de Malick Gackou sur le PTDS
Malick Gackou is not mincing words about the Senegalese Debt Treatment Plan (PTDS) unveiled this Tuesday by the government. "A debt treatment plan, in an economy undergoing constant decapitalization, inevitably leads to accepting its restructuring," declared the former Minister of Trade.
Moreover, the new Pastef member predicts a bleak future with this plan unveiled following the agreement reached with the IMF. "It's better to accept it than to speculate, since ultimately, the consequences of this strategy commit us, in the short term, to a structural adjustment with immeasurable consequences for vulnerable populations and the prospects for recovery. We must prepare for it now," he believes.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Planning unveiled the Senegalese Debt Treatment Plan. According to the department headed by Cheikh Diba, this plan constitutes "a response tailored to the characteristics of Senegal's debt."
"It allows for the sustainable restoration of the public debt profile, bringing the debt service burden on the state budget back to accepted standards and gradually freeing up the necessary leeway to finance public investments in priority sectors, particularly social sectors," the department said in a statement.
