Ziguinchor : Guy Marius Sagna alerte sur le pont Émile Badiane et celui de Todor
Member of Parliament Guy Marius Sagna conducted a field visit to Ziguinchor on Thursday, August 27, 2026. He traveled by dugout canoe to assess the condition of the Émile Badiane and Tobor bridges.
Previously, the parliamentarian stated that he had already raised the issue with the Senegalese government on several occasions. He noted that between 2023 and 2026, at least five written questions were submitted on this matter.
The first meeting, held on February 22, 2023, concerned the rehabilitation of the Émile Badiane Bridge. The second, held on February 21, 2025, addressed the alarming and concerning condition of the Émile Badiane Bridge.
A few months later, on November 25, 2025, the MP raised the issue of the reconstruction of the Émile Badiane Bridge in Ziguinchor. On August 6, 2025, another question concerned the role of roads in the Diomaye Plan for Casamance. Finally, on August 6, 2026, Guy Marius Sagna asked the government for an explanation regarding the postponement of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ziguinchor bridge.
According to the MP, these different questions reflect the concerns expressed by the people of Ziguinchor regarding these two bridges.
Behind these concerns, the parliamentarian also highlighted a trauma that remains particularly vivid in Casamance: that of the sinking of the boat "Le Joola".
According to Guy Marius Sagna, the voice of the people must be heard more by the authorities, given their fears of another tragedy. "The people want the Senegalese government to listen more closely to their voices, those still traumatized by the sinking of the 'Le Joola' ferry and who do not want to experience a repeat of the 'Joola' disaster. I understand and support their just and legitimate concerns," he emphasized.
He concluded his message by calling on the government to accelerate the work and decisions concerning these infrastructures for the security and opening up of Casamance.
