Bignona : Les infirmiers dénoncent leurs conditions de travail et interpellent les autorités
Nurses in the Bignona health district denounced working conditions deemed untenable and made an urgent appeal to the authorities, during an exceptional meeting in honor of these women and men, the first link in the health care chain.
In a context marked by the isolation of villages and difficult access to health facilities, caregivers described a grueling daily life.
"Especially with very impassable road conditions, the nurses had the necessary objective of being at the service of the population," said Tidiane Mané, member of the Bignona nurses' association, spokesperson on this occasion.
Healthcare workers describe a daily life marked by the isolation of villages, the lack of ambulances or motorcycles for emergency evacuations, and virtually non-existent logistical resources. "Imagine the women in an emergency at a health post where there is no vehicle or ambulance," he emphasized, highlighting the scale of the difficulties.
Beyond the material constraints, the precarious nature of recruitment is at the heart of the demands. The majority of staff are contract workers, forced to renew their precarious contracts every year, with no prospect of integration into the civil service, according to the district's chief medical officer.
Dr. Mamadou Lamine Sagna confirmed this reality: "There are some who have been here for more than ten years, and today they don't even have an employment contract with the Ministry of Health."
Despite this situation, nurses continue to carry out their mission with courage and selflessness, but their commitment cannot indefinitely compensate for the lack of institutional recognition.
The plea made during this celebration is clear: improve access to health facilities by rehabilitating roads, strengthen logistical equipment, stabilize recruitment by integrating agents into the civil service and ensure the doubling of positions to avoid a single agent being forced to remain available day and night.
“All positions are equal. Imagine a health worker who is alone in a post, he cannot stay there 24 hours a day,” Tidiane Mané reminded, stressing the urgency of reform.
Beyond its symbolic significance, this day allowed nurses to raise their collective voice: that of professionals essential to public health, yet too often overlooked. Their message is unequivocal: without decent working conditions, it will be difficult to maintain the quality of care and effectively meet the needs of the population.
