A mission to perform reconstructive surgery for female genital mutilation (FGM), conducted jointly by Senegalese teams and an Ivorian charity, has been underway since July 17 at the Abass Ndao hospital in Dakar.

"We operated on fifty patients in three days, between Friday and Sunday, as part of this reconstructive surgery mission," he said on the sidelines of the operations, specifying that the mission will continue until Friday, July 24, 2026.

Initiated by Abass Ndao Hospital, this operation is part of a structural program for the care of women who are victims of FGM. The hospital has set itself the goal of operating on between 350 and 450 patients per year. A strong commitment, but one that runs up against an undeniable reality: a lack of financial resources.

"This requires considerable financial resources," acknowledged Dr. Alipio, noting that the average cost of complete care for a patient is estimated at 253,000 CFA francs.

This package covers the entire medical process (consultations, laboratory tests, surgery, hospitalization, and medication). In addition, it includes the costs of psychological and sexological support, provided by specialists located in various regions of the country.

An appeal is being made to donors, associations, and international institutions. Every franc invested in this program helps a woman regain her integrity.
