Diphtérie : 9 décès, 76 cas recensés dans 24 districts
Nine people have died from diphtheria in Senegal, according to a statement released Monday, September 14, 2026, by the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene. A total of 76 cases have been recorded in 24 health districts across 11 regions.
As of September 13, the Kédougou region had the highest number of cases with 28, including 18 in Kédougou, eight in Saraya, and two in Salémata. It was followed by Dakar with 12 cases, primarily in Guédiawaye (7), and then Thiès with 10 cases, including nine in Mbour.
Louga has nine cases, distributed between Kébémer (5), Darou-Mousty (3) and Sakal (1). Diourbel has eight cases, including seven in Touba and one in Mbacké. Kaolack has three cases.
The other cases are distributed between Matam, which has two, and the regions of Fatick, Kolda, Saint-Louis and Tambacounda, which each have one case.
The ministry recommends prompt consultation and urges parents to adhere to the vaccination schedule, check their children's vaccination status, and, if necessary, administer any missing doses.
Diphtheria is an infectious and contagious disease, but it is preventable through vaccination. Symptoms can include a sore throat, fever, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness, neck swelling, or the presence of greyish membranes in the throat, sometimes accompanied by breathing difficulties.

Il faut un calendrier de vaccination complet des enfants au sénégal.
Les moyens de l'état doivent servir à ce genre d'initiative et pas seulement à enrichir une partie de la population
