Épidémie de diphtérie : 4 cas enregistrés à Kaolack, dont 1 décès
The Kaolack region now has four cases of diphtheria, including one death. This is causing concern among health authorities. Regional Health Director Aissatou Barry Diouf explains: “We have recorded four cases of diphtheria in the Kaolack region, including one death. I urge the public to seek early testing if they experience a sore throat, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or if they notice whitish patches at the back of their throat or in their nose. It is essential to go to the nearest health facility as soon as possible so that a sample can be taken.”
Ms. Barry Diouf explains that diphtheria is a vaccine-preventable disease: “We urge mothers and caregivers to complete their vaccination series and to start vaccination as soon as possible for children aged 0 to 12 months who have never been vaccinated. It is an airborne disease transmitted through the airborne droplets expelled when speaking, sneezing, or even coughing. Widespread mask-wearing can protect the population against this disease.”
