Floraison d'unités de fabrication d’eau à Touba : Le ministre de la Santé promet une vigilance accrue
During a visit to Touba as part of the health preparations for the Magal scheduled for August 2, the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr. Ibrahima Sy, reviewed the measures deployed by his department, before being received by the general khalifa of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, and his spokesperson, Serigne Bassirou Mbacké Abdou Khadr.
Enhanced water quality control
The minister emphasized the mobilization of the hygiene services brigade, which has been present in Touba for nearly a week. Its mission is to systematically inspect all sources of drinking water in the city, whether well water, tap water, iced water sachets, or bottled water sold commercially. Any water deemed contaminated will be immediately withdrawn from sale, he warned, reiterating that public health is beyond reproach.
In case of doubt, samples will be sent to other laboratories for confirmation, including those of the Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency or the Ministry of Commerce, in response to the proliferation of companies manufacturing water in sachets or bottles.
In addition, hygiene teams also monitor food distributed in the city, conduct home visits and carry out indoor spraying as part of vector control.
From a strictly health perspective, the ministry has mobilized 6,000 health workers and about forty ambulances, while the pre-positioned medicines represent an amount of 71.5 million CFA francs.
Healthcare delivery points have also been identified, with free patient care available when needed. This entire system is coordinated with the Diourbel Regional Health Directorate, hospitals, and district medical officers, under the supervision of the territorial administration and the governor, following the latest regional development committees (CRD).
Two major risks identified
The minister nevertheless warned of two risks that could disrupt the operation. The first concerns the mobility and circulation of ambulances: given the recurring traffic difficulties in Touba, he asked the spokesperson for the Caliph to raise awareness among motorists so that they give way to ambulances in case of emergency.
The second is linked to flooding, a recurring phenomenon in Touba during the winter period, which could constitute an additional obstacle for the evacuation of aid.
Despite these challenges, Dr. Sy said he was satisfied with the progress of the preparations, praising the commitment of community actors, some of whom have built and equipped health facilities made available to the ministry to strengthen the city's medical technical platform.
