Social unrest: SAMES joins the general strike and announces it will paralyze healthcare facilities this Friday

The Autonomous Union of Doctors, Pharmacists, and Dentists of Senegal (SAMES) has called on all its members to participate massively in the general strike scheduled for Friday, July 10, 2026, initiated by the Trade Union Front for the Defense of Labor (FSDT). This national mobilization comes amid strong demands from labor unions for respect for workers' rights and the State's social commitments.

In a statement published in Dakar, the National Executive Bureau of SAMES, affiliated with the National Confederation of Workers of Senegal (CNTS), invites all doctors, pharmacists and dentists in the public sector to observe the strike order in all regions of the country.

According to the union, this day of action aims primarily to defend workers' rights, demand respect for the commitments made under the Social Stability Pact, and improve working conditions for healthcare personnel. SAMES believes these demands concern all public sector employees and reaffirms its commitment alongside the other unions engaged in this struggle.

However, the union wishes to reiterate that this mobilization must take place in "unity, responsibility, and discipline." It also emphasizes the need to ensure the continuity of emergency care, in accordance with the principles of medical ethics, so that patients requiring immediate attention are not penalized by the movement.

Through this appeal, SAMES reaffirms its solidarity with the Trade Union Front for the defense of work and calls on healthcare professionals to make this strike a strong moment of demand in favor of the dignity of workers and the strengthening of the public health service.
